Fixity is evidence that a file hasn't changed: you compute a cryptographic hash (like SHA-256) at ingest and re-check it on a schedule. Storage fails quietly — bit rot, bad copies, sync errors — and fixity checks are how archives catch corruption while a clean copy still exists.
Favor open, widely-documented, uncompressed-or-losslessly-compressed formats: PDF/A for documents, TIFF or PNG for images, FLAC or WAV for audio, plain text/CSV for data. The pattern: formats with public specifications and many independent implementations survive; proprietary formats depend on one vendor's future.
Crawl it into WARC files — the standard web-archive format — using open tools, then verify the capture replays correctly. For single pages, save-page services and browser-based capture work; for whole sites, a configured crawl with media capture is worth the setup.
